Rollovers
Just a little note about SAFETY! Some of us go mild and some of us go wild, but whatever the pleasure, something can always go wrong. Take Steve for instance, out on a nice Sunday run with some other local four wheelers, and BAM……..

his
truck is on its side and the recovery clock starts ticking. Steve got his truck back up on its feet in
no time. The first reason for that was
that he didn’t get hurt…..Steve was wearing his seat belt. Other than his belt, the other reason that
Steve didn’t get hurt was that he wasn’t hit by any loose flying objects from
his vehicle. Other than the ice chest,
the only thing that probably was thrown out of his truck was his pride when it
had to be a Jeep that flipped his rig back on its feet! Seriously though, even if you aren’t into
crazy things, you never know when a four wheeling accident can happen. The two most important things to prevent an
injury during a rollover, or any kind of accident (e.g. brakes going out), is
to have you and your passengers belted in, and to have your equipment tied
down. During a rollover or accident,
anything loose in the vehicle can become a dangerous weapon. If you were to lose your brakes on a simple
downhill climb, you could hit the vehicle in front of you and launch loose
objects out of your truck like a shotgun.
Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way a few years back. I didn’t get hurt by anything coming out of
my truck (i.e. hi-lift jack, tool box, etc), but it did make for one helluva
yard sale out at Little Red Rocks!
So,
be safe, have fun, and most of all, get out there and enjoy the trails
that the great southwest has to offer!
